Coral Fresneda is a professional conference interpreter based in The Hague, Netherlands
Her areas of expertise include international criminal law and human rights with a particular focus on women’s, indigenous and environmental rights
As a freelance interpreter, Coral regularly works for international institutions and civil society organisations. She has interpreted for the the Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dr Denis Mukwege, the United Nations Office on Sexual Violence in Conflict, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office's Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative, the Global Survivor Fund, the Institute for International Criminal Investigations, the International Criminal Bar, the International Federation for Human Rights, the Global Network of Victims and Survivors of Wartime Sexual Violence, and Women’s Initiatives for Gender Justice. In December 2023, she interpreted at the COP28 UN Climate Change Conference.
Coral holds an Integrated Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Translation and Interpreting, with a specialisation in Law (2013). That same year, she passed Spain’s competitive state exams and was officially appointed Sworn Translator by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2015, she completed a Master’s Degree in Conference Interpreting.
During her studies, she gained valuable international experience as an Assistant Teacher at King’s College, enhancing her command of English, and at the Institute of Philology and Language Communication at Siberian Federal University, where she became fluent in Russian. After debuting at the booths of the European Council in 2015 as part of her master’s internship, she started her career as a freelance conference interpreter.
Earlier in her trajectory, Coral had interpreted for high-profile public figures, including bestselling authors John Katzenbach (2012) and Jeff Kinney (2014), one of TIME Magazine's 100 Most Influential People.

As a little girl, Coral was fascinated by her grandfather’s National Geographic magazines and dreamed of exploring those remote lands and communicating with the locals to learn about their history and culture. It was also through his collection of Russian classics that she became acquainted with the notion of morality, developing a heightened sense of justice from an early age.
This led her to combine the study of languages with legal, social and political sciences, as well as diplomacy and protocol. Whereas studying or working, she has lived in 10 countries and visited over 30 so far. She can communicate in English, Spanish, French, Italian, Catalan, Russian and Dutch. However, given the technical nature of her assignments, she only interprets from English into Spanish and vice versa, as well as from French into Spanish.
She started her career over a decade ago. Now she now looks forward to the challenges ahead and wishes to become more involved in social justice, being that bridge that connects cultures and hopefully contributing to a fairer world.
